Farmer-Led Research

The government is committed to delivering farmer-led research priorities. This is why we are engaging with farmers, ranchers and other agriculture stakeholders on the future of research in Alberta.

This consultation includes identifying:

  • What farmer-led research means to you.
  • Farmer-led research priorities.
  • The exploration and evaluation of governance models that deliver on farmer-led research.

A thriving research system is essential to job creation and economic growth. The engagement process is necessary to ensure the government is listening to industry and supportive of stakeholders. The focus is on ensuring the province has a strong innovation system that is supporting farmers and ranchers be competitive on cost, quality and assurance.

Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF) has the dual role of being a research funder and a research conductor. AF’s research capacity is focused on supporting a vibrant and competitive agriculture industry and has historically been supported by industry funding to complete research benefiting farmers and ranchers.
